With the constant deluge of bad news, who’s to say if God might not be considering another flood, or at least a little well-aimed divine retribution? Open any newspaper or scroll any screen and the evidence piles up: wars that never end, politics that grow meaner by the hour, scandals, disasters, and an endless parade of human cruelty. It sometimes feels as if the world has become a 24-hour cable channel devoted exclusively to bad decisions. If the Almighty really is watching, one can imagine Him glancing down, rubbing His temples, and wondering whether the original model needs a factory reset.

The biblical flood was, after all, a response to a world that had gone hopelessly off the rails.

Short of an actual flood, perhaps the real reboot must come from us, before someone upstairs decides to reach for the rain clouds.
